27 April 1917 - The Lowden News

Karl Heinrich Ludwig Deichmann was born on July 3, 1866, in Grosswieden, Germany, and came to America at the age of 17 years, landing in Chicago, Ill. Later he came to Lowden and was employed by different merchants here. Later he purchased the general store of N. D. Henry and continued the business until January 1, 1914, when he disiposed of it and retired, hoping to enjoy the pleasures of life, but which were of short duration.

He was married to Miss Sophie Reinking in 1895. He made several trips to Germany, the last one in 1912 with his family. That was the last time he saw his aged mother, who died one year later.

Mr. Deichmann on Good Friday was able to take part in the church services and holy communion with his wife and oldest son, Carl, who had been confirmed the Sunday before. About Easter Sunday he took sick and at times he seemed to be improving, but he grew steadily worse and during the last few days of his life he suffered great pain. He passed away at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 18, at the age of 50 years, 9 months and 15 days. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, two sons, Carl and Marvin; his aged mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Reinking; two brothers in Geramny, one of them at present is an army physician, and many other relatives.

Deceased was a member of Kelly Fish Camp, M.W.A., and carried $2000 insurance in this order.

He was a kind husband, and of a good disposition which won him many friends here who were shocked to learn of his death.

Funeral services were held at the home at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, April 21, Rev. John Reichardt officiating. Interment was made in the Lowden cemetery. The pall bearers were Herman Cassier, John Behrens, John Gehrls, Louis Richmann, Theo. Spoo and Wm. Koch.
