Private funeral services for Pearl Coppess, 80, Lowden, were held Sept. 3, 1988 at the Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland, with burial in the Evergreen cemetery at Grand Mound. The Rev. Al Rusk officiated and Steve Benton as the soloist. Pallbearers were Jon Coppess, Gary Coppess, Christopher Coppess, Tom Benton, Mike Benton and David Conrad.

Mrs. Coppess died Sept. 1 at the Jackson County Public hospital in Maquoketa following a sudden illness.

The daughter of John H. and Mary Hesse Benning, she was born May 7, 1908 at Buena Vista. She married Loren Coppess Jan. 15, 1934. She was a homemaker and had been a Lowden resident since 1946. She was a member of the United Church of Christ. Her husband died in 1979.

She is survived by 2 sons, Gary, Lowden and Jon, Iowa City; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Mary) Benton, Lost Nation; a sister, Mrs. Wilbur (Luella) Pingel, Wheatland; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, a sister and a great-granddaughter.
