James Cary, 68, Esteemed Tipton Man, Dies Suddenly

Mr. James Cary, a widely known farmer and esteemed resident of the Tipton community, passed away at the age of 68 Monday, in his home southeast of Tipton. He had been in frail health the past several weeks.

Mr. Cary was born June 22, 1880, in Waukegan, Ill., came to Iowa at the age of four years and was situated on a farm southeast of Tipton in his later years. He was active in civic affairs, had served as township trustee, and was a Past Master of Cedar Lodge No. 11 A.F. & A.M. of Tipton. He is survived by Mrs. Cary, two sons, George and James Jr., all of Tipton; three brothers, Sid of Marion, Harold and Alfred, of Bennett; a sister, Miss Maud Cary of Bennett and two grandchildren.

Funeral service was conducted at the Tipton Presbyterian church at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, the pastor Rev. Ramon Ferguson officiating with Cedar Lodge No. 11 Masonic Order in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Blanche Kiser, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Earl Escher. Casket bearers were Lewis Munn, Roger Bolton, Arthur Baer, Earl Escher, Ralph Owen and Arnold Albert.

Interment was made in the Masonic cemetery near Tipton.

James Cary, son of Thomas H. and Elizabeth Vicary Cary, was born at Waukegan, Ill., on June 22, 1880. He passed away at his home near Tipton, Iowa, on Monday morning, Nov. 8, 1948, at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 17 days.

While a child his parents moved from Waukegan to Mason City, Ia., where Mr. Cary attended the public school. In 1896, they moved to Tipton, where his parents operated a meat market for a short time before moving to the farm.

On May 26, 1912 he married Miss Barbara Blanche Garey. To this union was born one son, George A. Cary of Tipton. Mrs. Cary passed away on April 22, 1922.

On December 17, 1924, he was married at Orient, Iowa to Miss Blanche E. Culver. To this union was born one son, James C. Cary, at home.

He leaves to mourn his departure, besides his wife and two sons, three brothers and one sister: Sidney F. Cary of Marion, Iowa, Harold T. Cary, Maud A. Cary and Alfred W. Cary, all of Bennett, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Zoe Anne and Bruce William Cary, and one niece, Sidney Sue Cary. Also many neighbors and friends who have known and loved him.

Mr. Cary has no other relatives living in this country; his parents coming to this country from England in 1880. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Tipton, Iowa, joining the church at the age of 16, and has been a member ever since. He belonged to the Masonic order, being a member of Cedar Lodge No. 11, A.F. & A.M.

He was very active in various community enterprises, cheerfully giving of his time and effort for the good of the community and the various organizations which he represented. Mr. Cary was a good husband, a good father, and a good neighbor and friend. All who have known and loved him will miss him now that he has gone. May his memory be a benediction and a blessing to all.

May God's blessing rest upon you and give you comfort and courage and hope. That is our sincere prayer.
