Harry Carlton, Former Tipton Hotel Landlord, Dies In Cedar Rapids

Harry W. Carlton, a former Tipton businessman, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday in Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the Rohn funeral chapel in Cedar Rapids, the Rev. F. L. Hinshaw, pastor of St. James Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery at Wyoming, Iowa.

Mr. Carlton was born Nov. 10th, 1873, at Oxford Mills, Iowa, and served a number of years as postmaster and hotel landlord at Oxford Junction, before coming to Tipton to take charge of Hotel Tipton. His wife Ada Carlton preceded him in death seven years ago and his son Bradley Carlton, a graduate of Tipton high school, died a few years after leaving Tipton. He is survived by a sister-in-law Mrs. Ida Kettelsen of Mt. Vernon, and her two children, Pauline and Junior.

In his later years he had made his home in Cedar Rapids where he was owner of a taxicab company.
