25 October 1918 - The Lowden News

Another soldier boy has answered to the roll call on earth and has been transferred to the host triumphant. Glenn T. Clemmens was born in Wheatland, Ia., Feb. 12, 1896, and died from pneumonia at Camp Sherman, Chillocothe, O., Oct. 7, aged only 22 years, 7 months and 25 days.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Clemmens, highly respected people of this community and was one of two children, the other being a daughter, Elsie.

He responded for his country's call for men and left Tipton on July 23 in the largest contingent that has yet gone out from our midst in the present conflict. He remained at Camp Pike, Ark., until the middle of September, when he was transferred to Camp Sherman. He had risen in the ranks to corporal and had passed the examination for sergeant, but was taken sick before entering on his duties.

His serious illness began on Sunday, Sept. 29, his last letters home being written on the 28th. When his condition became critical his family was notified and a number left at once to see him, but they only arrived a few hours after he had passed on. The body was brought to the old home on Thursday evening of last week and laid to rest on Sunday afternoon. On account of the request by the state authorities that no public gatherings be held a service was held in the cemetery only by Rev. J. N. Naly. And here with soldier honors and amid a profusion of flowers from sympathizing friends he was left to sleep his last sleep.

He was married to Miss Hazel F. Argo July 15, 1918,and she with his immediate family and many other relatives and friends mourn the loss of one who had become very dear to them.
