Mrs. Alta Mae Getty, County Native, Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. Alta Mae Getty, a Cedar county native, were held at White Lake, S.D. June 22 with burial in White Lake cemetery. She died June 18.

The daughter of Albert and Rachel Boone Herring, she was born Feb. 22, 1890 at Stanwood and attended the Mechanicsville schools. She went to South Dakota where she lived with a brother, William. Dec. 17, 1910 she was married to Lawrence Carlye Getty at White Lake.

They lived on a farm near White Lake until 1925 when they moved to White Lake and operated a café. She retired from business in 1956 and moved to New Underwood, S.D. where she lived with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Cudmore.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Gaylord (Alma) Cudmore; Mrs. Eldon (Inez) Gieseman, White Lake; Mrs. Thomas (Doris) Hanson, Lodi, Calif.; 2 sons, Kenneth, Stockton, Calif. and LeRoy, in Vietnam with the air force; 28 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Albert, both in 1950, a sister, Ella and 4 brothers, William, Curt, George and Mont. She was the last of her immediate family.
