Ada C. Stiff was born August 21, 1878, at Morse, Iowa, the daughter of the late John C. and Margaret C. Stiff, and passed away at her home at Rochester, Iowa, June 16, 1952, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 25 days. She received her education in the schools of Johnson and Cedar counties.

On Sept. 10, 1912, she was united in marriage to W. S. Finefield and except for a few years spent in Missouri and Davenport, their entire married life was spent in Cedar county. For 15 years she served the Rochester community as telephone operator, giving up this position when her health began to fail.

She was active in all community affairs, serving as president of the Ladies' Aid of Rochester church for 10 years or more; Sunday school superintendent and a teacher in Sunday school work for a number of years. She loved her church and children. No task was too great for her to do until her health failed. Then she retired quietly to her home performing her household tasks until her last illness.

She is survived by her aged husband, two step-children, Mrs. Viva Highly, Tipton, Iowa, and Lyle Finefield, Cedar Rapids; 3 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Christion of West Branch; Mrs. W. G. Sheldon of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Henry Stiff of Peoria, Ill, and Otto C. Stiff, Bennett, and many nephews, nieces and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, 6 brothers and one sister.

Services were held Thursday afternoon at the Rochester Methodist church with Rev. Harold Loerch of Galena, Ill., officiating. Interment was in the Rochester cemetery.
