Final rites were conducted Wednesday for Norbert Wm. Goldsmith, 35, a veteran of World War II, at the Chapman funeral home and at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church in Clarence, with Rev. E. J. Bowers officiating. Music was by the male quartet with Miss Eleanor Conrad, organist.

Norbert Goldsmith was born May 18, 1917 in Clarence, the son of Mrs. Emma Kreinbring Goldsmith and the late Gus Goldsmith. He died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7, at University hospitals in Iowa City, where he had had surgery on Wednesday for a type of cerebral hemorrhage, with which he had been stricken about two months ago.

On January 1, 1951, he married Eleanor Stockman in Clarence, who with a daughter, Diane, survive him. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Goldsmith, two brothers, Lawrence of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marvin of Clarence, and one sister, Mrs. Wilma Schroeder of Clarence.

Norbert was active in church, civic and organization affairs, being a member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church where he has been a member of the choir and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Mt. Hope lodge, 501, A.F. & A.M., and of Clarence chapter No. 461, O.E.S., and of the American Legion which he served as adjutant for several years. He also served several terms as city clerk. He was employed as bookkeeper at the Ford Garage at the time of his death and serving as bookkeeper for the Clarence Telephone Co., Inc.

Masonic rites were conducted at the church and full military honors were conducted at the grave by Victory Post of the American Legion. Burial was at St. John's cemetery with cousins, Carlos Viall, of Belle Plaine, Wayne Goldsmith, Norman Goldsmith, Ray Kreinbring and Lloyd Hasselbusch of Clarence and Fred Hansen of Lowden serving as pallbearers. Floral tributes were in charge of cousins, Mrs. Wayne Goldsmith, Mrs. Henry Dircks and Mrs. August Dettman.
