Mrs. John Valet, 75 years old, well known Cedar county woman, passed away Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Susie Chamberlin, of Wilton. She had been ill since in March, when she sustained a stroke of paralysis.

Mrs. Valet was born in Kentucky, January 4, 1849, and came to Muscatine county with her parents, Isaac and Elizabeth Carroll, at the age of three months. On August 18, 1870, she married Mr. Valet and for 40 years they lived on a farm in Cedar county, six and a half miles northwest of Wilton.

The husband survives with four sons, Edward J. and George of Muscatine, William of Moscow and James of Grandview, and six daughters, Mrs. Chamberlin and Mrs. Sallie Pirkey of Wilton, Mrs. Flora Stark of Muscatine, Mrs. May Cole of Durant, Mrs. Viola Goll of Lane, S. D. and Mrs. Anna Heabner of Moscow. A daughter, Mrs. Irma Aye, is dead.

Mrs. Valet was a member of the First Baptist church of Muscatine. Her funeral was held at the Methodist church in Wilton, with burial there. Rev. H. A. Cossack officiated.
