Funeral services for R. E. "Dick" Thomson, 83, Tipton, were held June 2, 1989 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, with the Rev. Calvin Schumacher officiating. Mrs. Robert Hasselbusch was the organist and Gary Braet sang. Pallbearers were Cecil Slach, James Fonteyne, John Foley, Terry Campbell, Alan Schminke and Jeff McVay. Burial was in the Red Oak cemetery.

Mr. Thomson died May 31 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City.

The son of William and Sarah Wertz Thomson, he was born Dec. 5, 1905 in Stanwood. He was a 1925 graduate of Stanwood high school. He married Anne Williams Jan. 12, 1927 in Iowa City. She died Nov. 29, 1986.

Mr. Thomson had resided in Tipton since 1954. He was a farmer and had been a salesman for Vigortone Feeds since 1935. He was a member of Fremont Masonic Lodge #616 and St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence.

He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Ehlers, Tipton; 3 sons, Roland, Tipton; Leland, LaPorte City and Gary, Green City, Mo.; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Eloise Sinkler, Davenport and Emma Lou Smith, Ventura, Calif.; and 4 brothers, Everett, Davenport, Charles, Stanwood; George, Cedar Rapids and Edwin, Tipton. He was preceded in death by his wife, a grandchild, a brother and a sister.
