John Emerson, Tipton, Summoned Thursday

John L. Emerson was born December 18, 1868, at Lisbon, Iowa, and passed away Aug. 30, 1951, at his home in Tipton at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 12 days. At an early age he moved to Massillon in Cedar county. He received his education in Cedar county schools.

On December 10, 1889, he was united in marriage to Nellie Mae Spinner. To this union were born eight children.

In 1902 he moved to Lowden where he worked for the county doing road work. Later he became flagman for the North Western railroad. In 1911 he moved to a farm near Tipton where he resided until he retired in 1931.

Those preceding him in death are his parents, two brothers, three sisters, his wife in 1921, two sons, Donald at the age of 18 months, Pearl in 1945.

Those surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Burmiester of Grand Mound, Ethel, at home, two sons, Lyle, of West Branch and Lloyd of Tipton.

Funeral services were held in the Wilson funeral home Saturday, Sept. 1st, at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Leo G. Wolfe. Interment in the Massillon cemetery.
