Rites Held For Mrs. Hempy, 83

Mechanicsville - Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Grace Hempy in the Methodist church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James Nelson, officiating. Mrs. Floyd Siver was vocalist with Mrs. Robert Oxley, organist.

Mrs. Hempy, 83, died in the Anamosa Community hospital, May 10, following an illness of several months.

Grace Estella Krumroy Hempy was born the daughter of Adam and Lydia Kohl Krumroy on Oct. 31, 1884 on the farm home in Jones County. She was married in her parents home on Dec. 22, 1903 to Ira Louis Hempy. They lived on the Hempy farm in Greenfield township, Jones county, for 50 years, moving to Anamosa in September of 1953.

Mrs. Hempy was a member of the White Oak Evangelical church and after moving to Anamosa joined the Congregational church. She was a Past Matron of the Evangeline Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Hempy was preceded in death by her husband, on Dec. 1, 1964, an infant daughter, Verlean, and a son, Ivan in July of 1950. Also 3 sisters, Mrs. Clementina Humbert, Mrs. Ida Kohl and Mrs, Gertrude Minish and brothers, Franklin, Edward and Kenneth Krumroy.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Merle (Violet) Clifton and sister, Mrs. Arthur (Pearl) Vanderbilt. Also grandchildren, Mrs. Vern (Alberta) Svoboda, Mrs. Gerald (Verla) Pollock, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. James (Patricia) McGlasson, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Howard (Ilene) Shimanek, Marion, and Marilyn and Karen Hempy, Anamosa, and 5 great grandchildren.

Otis Siver, Glen Siver, Floyd Siver, Ralph Kuntz and Dean Kuntz were pallbearers. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery with Horners Funeral Service in charge.
