9 January 1903 - The Lowden News

John Wiebel died Monday at his home in Massillon Tp., about 3 1/2 miles north-west of Lowden, at the age of seventy years, nine months and nineteen days. His final sickness was of short duration as heart trouble hastened to his end. Funeral occurred yesterday. The services were conducted by Rev. Brammer, at the home and in the Lutheran church in Lowden and Mr. Wiebel was laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery. The pall bearers were Chas. Kroemer, Chris Kroemer, Henry Kruckenberg, Herman Meseke, Henry Bunge and John Bunge.

Deceased was born March 17th, 1832 at Wittenwater Prov., Hanover, Germany. At the age of thirty years he came to America and located for the first few years in Ill. and came from there to Lowden. Here he was married to his now surviving widow in Dec., 1867. Eight children were born to them of whom Miss Martha died Sept., 1901. Four sons, three daughters, two son-in-laws, two daughter-in-laws and eight grandchildren survive with the widow to mourn his demise. John Wiebel and all the members of his family belonged to the Lutheran church here at Lowden and deceased is another one of the first members in that church. November 15th last, he performed yet the function as pallbearer at the funeral of one of his brother church members, perhaps little thinking that he himself so quickly be layed close by. We know deceased as an honest, upright citizen, a friendly neighbor and a good loving husband and father.

The dead rest in peace!
