John B. Cessford was born near Louder, Scotland, Aug. 9, 1826, and died at the home of his daughter Mrs. J. S. Shuck in Clarence, March 9, 1904, at the age of 77 years and 7 months.

He was married to Janet Mason in October, 1850. To them were born 8 children, James of Tipton, Mary, now Mrs. J. S. Shuck of Clarence, Celia, now Mrs. W. L. Long of Tipton, George of Mitchell, S. D., John M. of Cherokee, Iowa, Robert of Marion, Iowa, Emma, now Mrs. M. H. Siple and Frederick of Clarence, Iowa, all of whom were present at the funeral except Emma who was absent on account of sickness. There are also 21 grandchildren, 5 brothers and 2 sisters left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father and brother. He came to America in 1851, locating at Utica, New York. In April, 1855, came to Tipton and settled on a farm in Fairfield township where he resided until the spring of 1899, when he moved to Clarence.

His wife died April 2, 1903, and since that time he has made his home with his children.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. Oglivie Friday from the Presbyterian church at Clarence, and the remains laid to rest in the Clarence cemetery beside those of his wife.
