Sarah A. Spence, mother of our former townsman A. W. Spence, died at Tipton, Iowa. Feb. 2nd inst.

Sarah A. Worth was born at Medford, New Jersey, March 16th, 1832. She was married to Thomas L. Spence in 1846 at Lumberton, New Jersey. Together with her family she came to Tipton, Iowa, in 1855. She leaves a family of eight children to mourn her loss. Before she died she selected the text she wanted preached at her funeral, it being Philippians 1st chapter, 23rd verse: "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ which is far better." She also selected a hymn to be sung, "God be with you till we meet again."
