Dan Haynes McCaw was born June 2, 1898, at Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Throughout his life he engaged in farming, first at Steamboat Rock and then, for the past ten years in the Clarence community. Dan was married to Marjorie Ballou of Clarence on January 4, 1923. Two children, Eugene and Ruth, were born into the home.

After a serious illness from a hopeless disease Dan passed away at his home on April 14th, 1951, at the age of 52 years, 10 months and 12 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCaw.

Immediate survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marjorie McCaw, his daughter, Mrs. Donald Bachman, his son Eugene, and two grandchildren, Sherry and Don, all of Clarence.

Dan was a good man of exceptionally clean habits, a lover of good music, and a good neighbor who will be greatly missed in the community.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 16th, at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. A. D. Holtry of The Methodist church. The music was furnished by Richard Weatherwax, Marvin Schilling, Robert Elijah and Lester Hill accompanied by Mrs. Marvin Schilling. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Roy Joslin and Mrs. Elmer Sawyer. Pallbearers were Warren Claney, Elmer Sawyer, Fred Phillips, Robert Kelly, Fred Bachman and Herman Hunwardsen. Burial was made in the Clarence cemetery.
