Henry J. Dettmann, son of the late Henry J. Dettmann and his wife Wilhelmina (nee) Kahl was born near Clarence in Cedar county on August 11, 1895. He was baptized in infancy and in 1910 was confirmed in St. John's church at Clarence. His entire life was spent in the Clarence vicinity and most of it on the farm where he suddenly died on Saturday afternoon, December 26th. He attained the age of 47 years, 4 months and 15 days. During world war I he was in combat service overseas.
He leaves to mourn his untimely passing, his age mother, Mrs. H. Dettman, two brothers, Emil of Mechanicsville and Alfred at home; two sisters, Caroline at home and Ella, Mrs. John Pfettscher of Clarence. His twin brother Gustav died in infancy. Also two nieces and two nephews.
Mr. Dettmann was a member of the American Legion of Clarence and of the Loyal Order of Moose lodge at Tipton.
Funeral services were held from the Dettmann home and the Evangelical and Reformed church on Tuesday, December 29th, Reverend F. J. Mittler officiating. Burial was in the Clarence cemetery. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Norman Bergmann, Mrs. Carl Wulff and Mrs. Darwin Beck. The pallbearers were comrad members of the American Legion, J. E. Shriver, Arnold Pruess, Clarence Bixler, Arnold Ruther, Clarence Ogden and Charles Von Muenster.
