1 April 1943 - The Clarence Sun
Clarence Morford Hill, fourth child of Lafayette and Emma Platt Hill, was born at Paris, Kentucky, February 2, 1893, and passed away March 21, 1943.
By reason of three accidents during the season, his health was much impaired. On March 15, he moved his family to the Alfred Hoffner farm near Clarence. Hired help being unavailable, he overtaxed his strength. His untimely death occurred before the home was set in order.
The father died when Clarence was two years old. The mother, unable to keep her family of five together, gave Clarence to the care of his grandparents. The mother died in 1937.
He received his education in the school of Carlisle, Kentucky.
In 1913 Clarence came to Cedar county where he worked as a farm hand, except for the period he spent in the U.S. Marine service. He enlisted in March, 1918 and saw service in Central America until his honorable discharge in April, 1919. He was a member of Victory Post American Legion of Clarence.
On February 23rd, 1927, he was married to Hazel Thumm. Two daughters were born to them. Their home was first established at Aledo, Illinois. After two years they returned to Cedar county where they since have been engaged in farming. On Easter Sunday, 1930, he united with the Presbyterian church of Tipton.
He is survived by his bereft wife, Hazel, two daughters, Berdina and Donna. He is also survived by three full brothers, and one sister; Ira of Tipton; Homer and Walter and Mrs. Mary Campbell of Cynthiana, Kentucky; three half brothers and one sister; Russell and Raynolds Stevens, twin brothers; Raymond Stevens and Mrs. Laurabelle Palmer, all of Cynthiana.
Clarence was a dutiful husband, a loving father and a friendly neighbor. He made friends easily and was always willing to assist where help was needed.
Funeral services were conducted by Elder U. J. Fike of the Church of the Brethren, from the McCormick funeral home in Tipton, March 25th, at 2 p.m. Interment was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.
