Mechanicsville -- Funeral services for Elza Jane Hay, 90, were held Wednesday Oct. 8 in the Horner Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Wooge and the Rev. Harold Martin officiating. Mrs. Calvin Robinson was organist.
Harold Davis, Robert J. Boots, James Glover, Daniel Herring, Merle Weber and Donald Driscoll were pallbearers. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Hay died Oct. 5 in St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids. He had been in failing health for some time.
Elza Jane Hay was born April 28, 1855 in Clinton County, Ky., the son of Thomas and Susan Wright Hay. He was educated in the Methodist Mission school in Highway, Ky. Mr. Hay was married to Nettie Hudson Sept. 5, 1909 at Highway. He lived most of his married life in Iowa, a few years in Missouri and in Mechanicsville for the past 29 years. He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Hay was a member of the United Methodist church and worked with the American Sunday school union for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Nettie, a daughter, Mrs. S.P. (Susan) Martin and a son, Albert M. Hay, Beaumont, Tex. Also 4 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and 18 great-grandchildren.
His parents, 5 brothers and 5 children preceded him in death.
