27 November 1941 - The Clarence Sun

Charles Freese, the second son of Frederick Freese and wife Sophia (nee) Woebking, was born at Wheatland, Iowa, on July 2, 1889. He was baptized in infancy by Rev. Schwartz of Lowden and on April 5, 1903, received the rite of Confirmation in Zion Evangelical and Reformed church at Lowden by the Rev. Werning.

On June 20, 1917, he was united in the bonds of holy matrimony with Miss Sophia Brinkmann of Clarence by the Rev. E. Hansen. From the time of their marriage Mr. Freese has been a loyal member and a faithful attendant of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church. They began their married life, and have always lived, on the farm about six miles southeast of Clarence.

Two weeks before the date of his death Mr. Freese became quite ill and on Monday, Nov. 10, it became necessary to take him to St. Luke's hospital where he underwent a very serious operation on Thursday. He seemed to be rallying from the operation and friends and relatives had high hopes that he would be able to return home, but his ever compassionate Heavenly Father, whose wisdom is beyond our understanding, called him to his home eternal. He departed this life on Saturday, November 22, at 3:30, having reached the age of 52 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Surviving are his bereaved widow, three children, Elmer, Viola and Chris, all at home; three brothers, Henry, Emil and Julius, all of Lowden, three sisters, Mrs. Alma Fehling and Mrs. Lena Kreinbring of Lowden and Mrs. Clara Pruess of Olin; two step brothers, Alfred and Herbert, both of Clarence, and two step sisters, Mrs. Malinda Kemmann and Miss Elsie Freese, both of Lowden. One step sister, Mrs. Luanna Sander, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held from the Freese home and St. John's church on Tuesday, November 25, 1941, with burial at Van Horne cemetery, south of Lowden. Rev. F. J. Mittler was the officiating minister.
