Edwin Lorenzo Rex DeLaMater, aged 57 years, died at his home at 1528 14th avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at 5:30 a.m. Monday, August 2, 1943, following a long illness.
Mr. DeLaMater, the son of Edwin F. and Jannette DeLaMater, was born in Clarence, Iowa, February 6, 1886. He had resided in Cedar Rapids since 1909, where on January 1, 1910 he was married to Alice M. Sommers.
Mr. DeLaMater was employed by the Chicago & North Western railway for 36 years, having retired from active service as a switchman, December 6, 1941. He was a member of the Sinclair Memorial church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Private Harold R. Delamater, of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter, Mrs. Violette Kucera, of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Mrs. Jennette DeLaMater; a sister, Miss Jessie Belle DeLaMater; three grandchildren, Harold Jr. and Darold DeLaMater, and Patricia Ann Kucera, all of Cedar Rapids. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Mildred L. in 1914; an infant son in 1924; and his father, Edwin F. DeLaMater, in 1940.
Services were held in the Turner chapel in Cedar Rapids at 4 p.m. Friday, August 6, in charge of Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the Sinclair Memorial church. Members of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen acted as honorary pallbearers. Burial followed in Oak Hill cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
