Louis Henry Wendt passed away on October 8th at 1:15 p.m. in St. Luke's hospital at Cedar Rapids, following several months' illness, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 18 days.
His parents were John Henry Wendt and Wilhelmina nee Kroemer. He was born on a farm north of Lowden on July 20, 1872.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran faith by the late Rev. J. H. Brammer.
On February 15, 1895, he ws married to Carolena Rixe. That same year they started farming on a farm east of Clarence. Mr. Wendt retired from the farm in 1937, moving to Lowden where he has since resided. His wife preceded him in death May 15, 1926. To this union were born eleven children, two dying in infancy.
He leaves to mourn his death, Hugo of Clarence, Ernest of Stanwood, Mrs. Alma Boedeker of Tipton, Herman of Mechanicsville, Mrs. Selma Esbaum of Wheatland, Mrs Lydia Klinkhammer of Stanwood, Mrs Esther McCraskey of Clarence, Harry of Donohue and Raymond of Chicago, Ill. Also twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Minnie Lehrmann of Stanwood, one brother Carl of Lowden. Two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted at the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence Monday afternoon, October 11th and at the Trinity Lutheran church in Lowden at 2 o'clock with the Rev. H. Maas officiating. Burial was in the English Lutheran cemetery at Lowden.
Serving as pallbearers were Charles Conrad, William Fehling, Julius Miller, Carl Esbaum, William Frubois and Fred Debner.
Mrs Charles Conrad, Mrs Julius Miller and Mrs Carl Esbaum were in charge of the floral offerings.
