Glenn Overett Derynck, son of Silven and Irene Derynck, was born February 26, 1940, at University Hospital in Iowa City. He departed this life March 10, 1950 in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, at the age of 10 years and 12 days.
Glenn was baptized March 17, 1940 in the Trinity Lutheran church in Lowden. He attended the parochial school of Lowden his first two years and has since been a pupil in the Clarence school. He was in fifth grade.
Glenn had not been his usual active self since Christmas and about five weeks ago he became even less active. He was in school on Monday of last week and during the week became more serious. He entered St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids about 8:00 o'clock Thursday night, and passed away at 1:30 a.m. Friday, March 10th.
He is survived by his parents and one brother, Robert, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Felix Derynck of Clarence and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Gottschalk of Lowden, and great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George O. Theesfeld of Wimdon, Minn.
A brief prayer service was held at the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence before services at the church.
The funeral was held in Trinity Lutheran church, Lowden, on Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. T. J. Eickelberg followed by burial in the Lutheran cemetery. The fine offerings of flowers were in charge of Mrs. Richard Dircks, Mrs. Wm. Burhop and Mrs. Herman Schwien. Music by Male Quartet and Church Choir accompanied by Henry Bertram. Pallbearers: Dewey Dircks, Edward Crock, Lloyd Steffens, Vernon Gottschalk, Dale Jorgensen and Robert Gottschalk.
