Funeral services are being held today in the United Methodist church, Clarence for Robert Kelly, 76, who died Sunday in St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. Masonic rites were held Tuesday night.
The Rev James Lusher officiated and Mrs Robert Joslin was organist. Burial was in the Clarence cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Bachman, Paul Busching, Arnold Pruess, Ray Doermann, Elmer Sawyer and Lavern Kintzel. Wayne Saunders and Dr Harold Bouschlicher were honorary pallbearers. Mrs Bachman and Mrs Sawyer had charge of flowers.
Mr Kelly was born January 30, 1894 at Clinton to Albert and Katherine Mahon Kelly. On Dec. 15, 1915 he was married to Pearl Baughman at Clarence. He was a retired farmer.
At the time of his death he was a member of the Clarence Nursing Home board, the Edna Zybel library board, the state building committee of the United Methodist church and overseer of the Cedar County Conservation Parks for the Conservation board.
He was a 50-year member of Mt. Hope Lodge 501, AF&AM, at Clarence and was a member of the United Methodist church, having served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years.
He had been a 4-H leader and served on the Clarence school board, the creamery and co-op board of directors and had been a member of the Clarence volunteer fire department. He had also served on many boards and committees of the Methodist church in Clarence.
Mr Kelly is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Mrs Melvin (Helen) Hasselbusch, Clarence, and Mrs Floyd (Dorothy) Emmons, Marion; 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a brother, Lester of Clarence.
