There is an article on May 25 1912 on S E Shannon who was found in an alley in Des Moines and taken to a hospital where he died. Was active in GAR and married Miss Eliza Hughart and they lived in Madison co until 1880 when they came Cass Co and settled on a farm near Wiota, then moved to Atlantic. Mov to Des Moines @ 1911. children were Mrs S H KIrk of Des Moines. Mrs H F Harris and Ed Shannon, Henry Anita Ia; Dolly at home; Tom of Kearney NE; Margaret a teacher at Idaho Falls ID; Sam at home; Jessiea teacher at Idaho Falls and Hal who has been on a ranch in Montana. Funeral for Samuel in Atlantic, taken to the home ofH F Harris and funeral held Monday at 230 fm M E Church ( Samuel was in War of the Rebellion enlisted June 13 1861 mustered July 31 1861 wounded severely Apr 14 1862 Montevallo, MO. First corporal when mustered out sep 9 1864 Davenport Ia. He was buried Atlantic Cem Lot 83 block 4. Blood relatives Jessie Shannon & Margaret (H F Harris, Chicago IL. Ed Atlantic; Henry, Anita; Hal Butte MT Dolly shannon Des Moines. Sam and Mrs S H Kirk and Hall Shannon all deceased. He was b Sept 20 1840 Green Castle IN. Inducted June 13 1861 Burling ton Ia Discharge sept 9 1864 Davenport IA Army Co D 1st Ia Volunteer Cavalry.
