I am doing this from home, so haven't found much. In the 1885 Census of Cass County Pymosa Township, I found Handley FOOT, 25 B Poweshiek County IA living with Judge Samuel Lorah of Lorah 75 b PA & Estie Oathoudt families (49 b IN)
he is listed as a grain merchant. I can check the later Census when I go to the Library. Does this sound like H D? Lorah is a district just north of Atlantic. Was he a married man?
