Hello! I found a Herman and Hannah Brella, both age 50, living with their daughter Mary, age 14, in Atlantic in the 1880 census. It seems like that might be a possibility?? (Actually all the right letters in the last name, just mixed up a bit.) Obviously, one can't be sure, but often surnames are mispelled in census records, which is probably understandable given that immigrants were often just starting to learn English and had thick accents.

I would recommend contacting the Cass County Genealogical Society regarding an obituary (email address casscgs@yahoo.com). They maintain a large obituary card file in the Genealogy Room of the Atlantic Public Library, which is continually growing, and I've found them to be very helpful. You have an exact date of death for both Herman and Hannah, so it would be easy for them to do a lookup if the obituaries are not yet in their card file. Since your family lived in Atlantic for some time, it's quite likely that obituaries were published in the Atlantic paper. Good luck!
