Births were required by law to be recorded beginning July 1, 1880 (although there wasn't necessarily complete compliance in the early years). Since you have an exact date of birth, you could try requesting of copy of the birth certificate from the Iowa Department of Public Health. There is a fee, and if they search for but don't find a record unfortunately there is no refund. However, it may be worth it to try. Further info may be found at: http://www.idph.state.ia.us/apl/vital_records_add_info.asp . Records are open for inspection at the county level (court house in Atlantic) or may be order via phone or mail from the State of Iowa, per the directions provided at the above website.
