Sherman Jackson, foreman of the Peter Hopley stock farm, southwest of Atlantic, met death by lightning, while two men, G. D. Bernard and Andrew Christensen, seated on the same wagon, had miraculous escapes. Mr. Jackson and the two men had been out fixing a wire fence. When the rain and electrical storm came up they started for the house, but the storm overtook them. One man was driving and the other was seathed [sic seated] on a spool of wire just behind him, while Mr. Jackson was in the rear end of the wagon. The lightning struck the horses, killing them instantly, and passed the two men ahead of Jackson and struck the latter, killing him instantly, the others received but a slight shock. Mr. Jackson was horribly burned.
