Dr. J. M. Emmert, Democratic member of the state board of parole, is dead at his home at Atlantic, death being caused by apoplexy. The family was awakened during the night by hearing his hard breathing and physicians were summoned, but were unable to relieve him.
For thirty-four years Dr. Emmert has lived at Atlantic and is well known all over Iowa. He went to Atlantic from Hamburg after his graduation in medicine.
Many state officials, headed by Governor Carroll, attended the funeral, which was one of the most impressive ever held in the state.
The governor will appoint a new member of the board, but no one, knows who as yet. The name of Jerry Sullivan of Des Moines has been suggested.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in the Atlantic Cemetery and that he was born June 13, 1846 and died July 15, 1909.
