Jerry Howard Shey, 90 of Atlantic, died Friday morning, April 26 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 30 at 1030 a.m. at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Howard Kalb as celebrant. Interment will be in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Monday, April 29 at 7 p.m. followed by a visitation from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Roland Funeral Home.

The son of Jerry M. and Elizabeth Lydia Malone Shey, he was born Sept. 21, 1905 in rural Wiota and graduated from the Wiota High School in 1924. He was married to Lucille Christine Bintner on Feb. 16, 1935 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wiota. Following marriage, they farmed east of Wiota, with the exception 15 years when Howard was a bus driver for the Continental Trailway in Council Bluffs and Omaha, Neb. He retired in 1970, and the couple moved to Atlantic. He was a member of the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille on March 8, 1996; a son Jerry (Jeremiah) in 1973; four sisters, Bertha Shey, Valda Ehrman, Anna McMahon, and Winnie Witt; and a brother, Dan.

Survivors include a son, James Shey of Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Mary Joan Pogue and husband Richard of Dallas, Texas; four grandsons, Mike and Matt Shey of Milwaukee, Wis.; Alan Pogue of Little Rock Ark.; Jerry Pogue of Dallas, Texas; and a sister, Esther Franz of Coronado, Calif.
