BERTHA SHEY, 51, DIES AT WIOTA SUNDAY NIGHT

Wiota, Ia., Dec. 16. — (Special)

Miss Bertha Shey, 51, a native of Atlantic, died at 11:10 Sunday night at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. [J. M.] Shey, following a prolonged illness.

Death resulted from complications of the spleen. Miss Shey had been in failing health for the last five years and in a serious condition five months.

She was born in Atlantic on Nov. 21, 1884, a daughter of J. M. and Lydia Malone Shey. When a year old she moved with her parents to a farm near Massena where the family lived eight years. The Shey family then located on a farm southeast of Wiota, living there until 1931 when they retired from farming and moved into the town of Wiota, residing there since.

Miss Shey, for several years, had assisted Mrs. F. M. Huff with the duties of the Wiota postoffice.

Surviving besides her parents are four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Winnie Barrett of Omaha, Mrs. Esther Franz of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Valda Ehrman and Mrs. Anna McMahon of Wiota, Howard Shey of Atlantic and Dan Shey of Massena; eight nephews and two nieces. A brother, Francis died in infancy.

The funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Wiota, with Father M. J. O’Connor officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Catholic cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the family home until the hour of the rites. The casket will not be opened at the church.
