THADDEUS PRALL IS DEAD.

Aged Settler Dies Suddenly at His home Here. A Prominent and Well Liked Man.

AT 6:50 o’clock last evening Thaddeus Prall, 81 years old, one of the earliest pioneers of Cass county, and for many years past a resident of Atlantic, and one of the best known and highly respected citizens of this community, was stricken with an attack of heart failure and died at his residence 1309 Locust street.

During the intense heat of yesterday afternoon he had felt unusually well and had even remarked to his wife that as long as he had stood the heat of the day he thought he would get along all right during the cool of the night.

Shortly before his death he had gone over to one of the neighbors, returned home, finished the evening chores, and was just leaving the barn for the house when Mrs. Prall saw him sink to the ground. She called neighbors who immediately came to his assistance and carried him out on the lawn where he expired before the physicians who had been hastily summoned could arrive. Ever since his forty-fifth year he had been subject to attacks of heart failure.

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at four o’clock at the Methodist church.

Thaddeus Prall was born in Washington county, Penn., on October 22, 1826. His parents were also natives of the same state. He lived with his parents at his birthplace for twelve years when they moved to Ohio taking him with them and there he lived until he was twenty years of age. At that time his parents moved to Indiana, settling in Clarke county, where in a few years his father and mother died. Then he began life for himself, hiring out by the month as a farm hand. In his twenty-eighth year he moved to Adams county, Ill., purchased a tract of heavily timbered land and converted it into a farm. This property he farmed until 1869 when he disposed of it and moved to Cass county, locating on 160 acres of land seven miles south-east of Atlantic. To this farm he added another 160 acres and he lived for many years upon the combined farms.

Thaddeus Prall married Rebecca J. Prather, a native of Indiana, on December 27, 1849. To this union six children were born and five survive their parents—Columbus, Leander A., and Edmund F., who are all well known citizens here; Rosella who is married and lives in Colorado; Elizabeth A., who is also married and lives in Pocahontas county, Iowa. His first wife died and in 1887 he married Miss Nancy J. Paterick [Patrick], a native of Indiana, who with their two children Frank and May survive him.
