William K. Karwal

William K. “Bill” Karwal, 69, of Atlantic, passed away Saturday evening, May 19, 2007, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

William Koob Karwal was born July 31, 1937, at the Atlantic Hospital, Atlantic, the son of Harold and Mary Elizabeth (Miller) Karwal.

Bill graduated from the Exira High School in 1956, and on June 24, 1956, married Donna Mae Paulsen at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.

While in high school, Bill worked for Hoegh Oil in Atlantic and continued his employment with McAtee’s until he retired 43 years laster [later]. Following retirement, Bill drove a school bus for the Atlantic community School System.

He was a life member of the Atlantic Elks Club No. 445 and was a volunteer fireman for 25 years.

Bill loved his flowers and enjoyed gardening. He also did landscaping and was kind, helpful and caring for anyone needing assistance.

Bill is survived by his wife, Donna Karwal of Atlantic; his daughter, Debra Williams and her husband, Bryan of Aledo, Texas; his son, Dr. Mark Karwal and his wife, Laura of Iowa City; his mother, Mary Karwal of Anita; five grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda, and Calley Williams, as well as Lucas and Matthew Karwal.

He is also survived by a brother, Joseph Karwal and his wife, Norma of Yuba City, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold L. Karwal.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 23, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic with the Reverends Dennis and Sally Meyer officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m., with the family present to greet their friends fro 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials go to the Atlantic Trees Forever in Bill’s memory.

Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of the arrangements.
