MILITARY FUNERAL FOR IRA M. DAY

VETERAN OF TWO WARS WILL BE LAID TO REST WITH HONORS TUESDAY AFTERNOON

A military burial will be accorded Ira M. Day, veteran of the world war and the Spanish-American war, who died Saturday evening at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial hospital.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the First Christian church, Rev. C. O. Stuckenbruck officiating, assisted by Rev. Edgar Price of Missouri Valley, formerly of this city. The American Legion will have charge of the funeral and pall bearers will be selected fro members of the American Legion and the Spanish war veterans. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.

Death of Ira Day.

Ira Day, a former Adams county gentleman, died recently in a hospital in Council Bluffs. His old friends in Adams county will be interested in reading the following notice from the Atlantic Telegraph.

Ira M. Day, veteran of two wars, and a former resident of Atlantic, died at his home in Council Bluffs following an illness of three days. The attending physicians have not fully decided the immediate cause of death, which occurred following Mr. Day’s removal to Jennie Edmundson hospital for an operation.

C. A. Day, of this city, is the father of Ira Day. Walter Day, head of the Purity Ice Cream company, and Mrs. Fred Durr are brother and sister. Mr. Day also is survived by a wife and daughter and son.

Adams county was the birthplace of Mr. Day. He lived there for many years, later taking up his residence here. A number of years ago he located in Council Bluffs. He was manager of a branch of the Harding Ice Cream company at the time of his death. He was 46 years of age.

Mr. Day served in the Philippines during the Spanish-American war between America and Germany he enlisted for service with Unit K of the hospital corps, organized in Council Bluffs. He spent sixteen months in France and won an enviable reputation for gallant service.

Mr. Day was buried in Council Bluffs with military honors, the services being in charge of the American Legion and the Spanish-American war veterans. The pallbearers representing the Spanish war organization were Col. Donald Macrea, Col. Matt Tinley and Capt. Sam Green; those of the world war, Dr. Hill, F. Earl Bellinger and Orlie Kinsel.
