L. H. SOPER DEAD.

Leonard H. Soper passed quietly away at his home, 711 Spruce street, at 7:30 this morning, after an illness of but one week, he having been suddenly attacked with pneumonia jus a week ago today, the attack from the first having been recognized as a fatal one.

Mr. Soper was born in Upper Canada, September 21, 1846, where he attended the public schools until twelve years of age when his ambition to succeed in life, a trait that was early discovered in his nature, led him to seek his fortune in the United States. He spent a short time on a farm near Galesburg, Illinois then in 1859, came to this county and located on a farm in Franklin township. In June, 1867, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Headley of Bureau county, Illinois, and shortly afterward located upon the splendid 120 acre farm in Atlantic township where he lived for many years, raising a family of six children and making a name for himself which will live long in the memory of his friends and acquaintances. He was often honored with offices of trust in his township and, although of the political faith which was in the minority, always received handsome majorities over his opponents in those contests. Some six years ago Mr. and Mrs. Soper moved to this city to the home where his remains now lie. Aside from the loving and faithful wife, the six children, Mrs. Lenora Neth, Mrs. Addie Prall, Ira and Louis, of this city, Mrs. Myrtle Low of Cumberland, and Mrs. Maud Beck of South Omaha, survive him. Mr Soper was among the most widely known and most successful farmers and stock raisers in Cass county, was a man who made friends of all with whom he came in contact and will be greatly missed by the community at large.
