REBECCA MALONE REAL PIONEER OF CASS COUNTY, DIES

Passes Suddenly Saturday Evening Following Heart Attack. Lived Here for 66 Years.

Mrs. Rebecca Elizabeth Malone, wife of Bernard F. (Bernie) Malone, and a resident of Cass county for the last sixty-six years, died suddenly at 8:30 Saturday evening of a heart attack at her farm home, two miles south of Atlantic on highway No. 71. She was the mother of C. E. Malone, well known local seed man and county supervisor. Mrs. Malone had been ill for a number of weeks, but was believed to have been on the road to recovery when she was stricken.

Rebecca Elizabeth McGee was born Feb. 14, 1863, in Franklin township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs George McGee, and was married in Atlantic on Feb. 16, 1880, to Bernard Malone and had made their home in this county since. The deceased had been a lifelong resident of Grove and Franklin townships and had lived on the farm, where she died, for the last twenty-one years.

Real Pioneer.

Mrs. Malone was widely known throughout this section and her death is deeply mourned.

She was one of the real pioneers of this county. As a girl she witnessed the passing of the stage coach and the development of the railroads. In later years the passing of the horse which was replaced by the automobile and the airplane. She often told of the beautiful sunsets on the rolling Iowa prairies, of the caravans of settlers coming to and going from [settlers coming to and gonig [going] from] this section and some of the interesting history of development of the towns in the county.

Funeral Tuesday.

This union was blessed with three sons and a daughter, all of whom are living. They are C. E. Malone and Raymond Malone of Atlantic, Bay Malone of Wiota, and Miss Lottie Malone at home. The husband, five grandchildren and a brother, George McGee, also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home, the Rev. William Mack, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, having charge of the rites. Interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery.
