January 12, 1939MRS. E. E. BUTLER SUCCUMBS HERE THIS AFTERNOON
Mrs. Ida M. Lloyd Butler, 62, wife of Emmett E. Butler, local grocer and a well known resident of this community more that a half century, died at 1 o’clock this afternoon at her home at 511 West Sixth street.
Death was attributed to heart disease. She had been in failing health two months and in a serious condition several days.
She was born on a farm near Elliott on March 17, 1877, a daughter of the late W. Z. and Hannah Lloyd. When 8 years of age she moved with her parents to a farm in the Five Mile Grove community where she grew to young womanhood. Miss Lloyd and Mr. Butler were married in Atlantic on Jan. 5, 1898. With the exception of a year in Missouri, they had spent all of their married life in this community.
Mr. Butler has operated a community grocery store at Seventh and Palm streets for a number of years.
Surviving besides the husband are three daughters, Mrs. Ray Smith of Walnut, Mrs. Russell Whited of Lewis and Mrs. Ben Pollock of this city; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. T. G. Turner and Mrs. Sam Jones of Atlantic, and two brothers, Dave Lloyd of Atlantic, and John Lloyd of California. A brother, W. E. Lloyd, died in 1930.
Mrs. Butler was an active member in the First Presbyterian church and was also a member of Golden Rule chapter No. 194, Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian church. The Rev. Richard P. Chambers will officiate and interment is to be in the Atlantic cemetery. An Eastern Star lodge service will be conducted at the church.
The body will be removed from the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home at noon Friday to her late home, remaining there until the hour of the services.
