GEORGE MAGEE, 78, PIONEER OF CASS COUNTY, IS DEAD

Well Known Bachelor Had Resided in This community for the Last Seventy Years.

George W. Magee, 78, well known bachelor and resident of Cass county for the last 70 years, passed away at [8:40] last night at the Atlantic hospital where he had been a patient since last August. Mr. Magee had been ill for more than a year with complications incident to old age.

Born at Philadelphia, Pa., Aug. 25, 1852, he came to Cass county with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Magee, pioneers of the county, in 1857, and settled at Turkey Grove, southeast of Atlantic. With the exception of four years spent in Kansas where he proved up on a claim, he had resided in Cass county since coming to the middle west. For the last forty years the deceased had resided in Atlantic.

Mr. Magee attended old Highland college at Des Moines.

He was a brother of the late Mrs. Columbus Prall and Mrs. B. F. Malone. Surviving are two brothers-in-law, Columbus Prall and B. F. Malone, four nieces, Mrs. Grace Peed, Earlham; Miss Berkie Prall, Oakdale: Mrs. Clifton Acker and Miss. Lottie Malone of Atlantic, and five nephews, George Prall of Des Moines, Ray Malone of Ellensburg, Wash., C. E. Malone and Arch Prall of this city.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Osborne-Tomlinson funeral home. The Rev. William Mack, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate and interment will be in the Wiota cemetery.
