Emmett [Emmet] Butler, Atlantic Native, Dies Last Night

Emmett [Emmet] E. Butler, 79, retired Atlantic farmer and grocer, died Monday evening at 8:30 at the home of Mrs. B. F. Brodersen, 6061/2 Locust street, where he had been cared for the last two months. He had been in ill health three years.

Mr. Butler, the son of William and Francina Butler, was born May 3, 1874, on a farm north of Atlantic. He was married to Ida M. Lloyd of Atlantic, June 5, 1898 and farmed north and west of Atlantic until moving to Atlantic in 1922. He was engaged in the grocery business a number of years, retiring in December 1939. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and Pymosa lodge 271, A. F. & A. M. Mrs Butler died Jan 12, 1939.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Roy Smith and Mrs. Ben Pollock of Atlantic and Mrs. Russell Whited of Manitou Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, E. O. and Bert Butler and a sister, Mrs. G. W. Ringle.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Roland funeral home, with Masonic services in charge of Pymosa lodge 271. The remains will be at the funeral home until the service hour and interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery.
