Francis Howard (Bud) Malone, 26, of Wiota, was almost instantly killed at 7:15 last evening when the car he was driving went out of control and overturned on County K a mile and a half south of Wiota. He was en route to his home to sort some cattle for shipment at the time of the accident.

Russell Waters of Atlantic was driving ahead of Malone and when he noticed the latter was no longer following him, Waters turned around and found the young farmer near death on the roadway, some 65 feet beyond where the Malone car had come to a stop. The district highway patrol reported the Malone car traveled about 150 feet along the shoulder on the east side of the road, then rolled over several times after coming back onto the graveled surface of the highway, landing on its wheels 270 feet from where it first went out onto the shoulder.

The Wiota youth suffered a fractured skull, multiple fractures and abrasions. His 1950 Ford was completely demolished.

Malone, the son of the late S. M. Malone, lived with his mother, Margaret E. Ruane Malone, on a farm three miles south of Wiota. He was born at Wiota June 6, 1925, and had lived on the farm all of his life. He was graduated from the Wiota high school and served in the navy two years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church of Wiota and the Atlantic V. F. W.

Surviving besides the mother are a sister, Mrs. Mary Krohn, and a brother, Richard M. Malone, both of Atlantic.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a. m. Thursday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church here, Msgr. P. N. McDermott officiating. The remains will be at the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home until the service hour and the Rosary will be recited there tonight and Wednesday evening at 9 o’clock. Interment will be in the Atlantic Catholic cemetery.
