Mrs. Julia A. Mailander, Ex-Wiota, Anita Resident, Passes Away Last Week

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at S. S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for Mrs. Julia Alice Mailander, 87. Msgr. Bart Kane was celebrant.

Musical selections were by the church choir and Mrs. Charles Sandhorst was organist. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mailander were in charge of flowers. Casket bearers were Howard Shey, James Malone, Dick Malone, Tom Mailander, Paul Komma and Leo Crolley. Interment was in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Mailander, daughter of James S. and Sarah M. Rohrer Malone, was born Aug. 18, 1887, near Atlantic, and passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, at Cass County Memorial Hospital, were she had been a patient about a month.

She was married to Joe Mailander, Nov 14, 1912, in Omaha and he passed away July 2, 1962. The couple farmed in the Wiota area and for a few years they lived on the acreage at the east edge of Anita, now the home of the Jim Ruggles family. They moved to Atlantic in 1947. Mrs. Mailander was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

She is survived by a brother, T. L. (Leo) Malone of Hampton: two nephews, Paul Komma of Newkirk, Okla., and James Malone of Sioux City; and a niece, Sarah Ann “Babe” Komma Rademacher of Arkansas City, Kan. Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Paul and twin brother, Arthur, and a sister Mrs. Anna Komma.

Mrs. Mailander’s late husband, Joe was an uncle to Ed and Tom Mailander and the late Paul Mailander.
