Rites Held For Clayton Acker, 82

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Roland Funeral Home for William Clayton Acker, 82 of Atlantic. Rev. Dean Williams of First United Presbyterian Church officiated.

Mrs. Walter Lyons organist, played the musical selections “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.” Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Bartley and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lilienthal were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Casket bearers were Lee Bartleson, Joseph Joyce, Darrell Both, Albert Thomas, Paul Both and Walter Lilienthal. Burial was in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Ed Hamilton was in charge of the Masonic services at the funeral home, and the American Legion conducted graveside services.

Mr. Acker, son of Thaddeus Wakefield and Ida Elizabeth Moyer Acker, was born near Atlantic July 6, 1895, and passed away Wednesday evening, July 13, at Heritage House in Atlantic, where he had resided since last Oct. 25. He attended rural schools. He was married to Ruth Kimball Feb. 17, 1920, in Atlantic, and lived his entire life in the area, farming until his retirement.

Mr. Acker served in the Army during World War I, and was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 271, the American Legion, VFW and World War I Barracks. For a number of years he was a star route mail carrier for the Postal Service.

He is survived by a son, Dr. Duane Acker of Manhattan, Kans., a daughter, Mrs. John (Lorraine) Rasmussen of Santa Barbara, Calif.: four grand children; four brothers, Arleigh of Wiota, his twin brother Clifton of Camdenton, Mo., Leroy and Clarence of Atlantic: also, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife who passed away Nov. 19, 1974: an infant daughter, his parents, and a sister, Abbie Kitchen.
