DEATH OF A. T. HARRIS

Passes Away Very Suddenly at Home of Daughter in Superior, Wisconsin, on Sunday Afternoon.

A. T. Harris, one of the best known of the residents of Cass county, died very suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Ergenbright, at Superior, Wis., about 3:30 Sunday afternoon, the word being received in this city today. The remains will be brought to this city for interment, leaving Superior at four this (Monday) afternoon.

Mr. Harris and his son, James had been visiting at the home of his daughter for about six weeks. No particulars as to the cause of his death have been received here but it is supposed that it was heart trouble. Deceased had been in poor health for some time, being troubled by asthma and other complaints. He was about 68 years of age.

Mr. Harris’ wife died in this city a little over a year ago He Leaves five children. The children are E. E. and H. F. Harris of Pymosa township, Mrs. Ergenbright of Superior, Wis., Mrs. L. H. Conine and James Harris of this city. The funeral announcement will be made later.

Obituary

Albert Thomas Harris was born in Green county, Ohio, Sept. 9 1835, and died at the home of his daughter in West Superior, Wis., Sep. 12, 1904, aged 69 years and 3 days. His father’s family removed to Randolph county, Indiana in 1836 when he was one year old. He was married to Maria H. Butler, June 3rd 1858 and to this union was born five children, three sons and two daughters all of whom were present to pay the last tribute of respect to a kind and loving father. Two sons E. E. and H. F. reside in Pymosa township this county, and J. A. Harris and Mrs. Ona Conine live in Atlantic and Mrs. Lulu Ergenbright in West Superior, Wis. In the fall of 1860 with his wife and one child he came to Cass county, Iowa, and settled in the Pymosa township where he resided until 1890 when they came to Atlantic where he has lived since that time. His wife died July 12, 1903 just fourteen months to a day before death claimed him. He was the youngest member of a family of fourteen children all of whom are now dead except one brother, James A. Harris of this county.

In 1864 he went into the army to do battle for the life of his country and remained in the service until the war closed. Soon after coming to Iowa he united with the M. E. church and for more than forty years has been a loyal zealous worker in the cause of our blessed Savior and Master.

Such is life “we come forth as the flower, live for a few years and are only remembered by what we have done.” This closes the life of a good and useful man, who will be greatly missed by his family, the church and a vast number of relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held in the M. E. church conducted b Rev. Geo. M. Hughes and Dr. E. S. Hill and he was laid by the side of his wife in the Atlantic cemetery.
