October 3, 1888Suicide of Wm. Fudge.
News was brought to this city Sunday that Wm. Fudge, living about three miles southwest of Marne, had committed suicide by hanging himself in the grove near his farm. He had been insane for about two years and had frequently made attempts to take his own life, and had required almost constant watching by the members of the family. He was missed from the house about three o’clock Saturday afternoon and search for him was immediately commenced, the entire neighborhood joining. About eleven o’clock at night the body was found hanging to a tree in the grove, the feet resting on the ground. He had died from strangulation. Mr. Fudge was an old and respected citizen of that community.
