MARNE RESIDENT, ILL SINCE SPRING, DIES YESTERDAY

Wm. T. Fudge, Brother of Atlantic Folks, Bedfast Twenty-Eight Weeks. Here Since 1871.

William T. Fudge, well known resident of Cass county for forty-nine years, died yesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock at his home in Marne, after many weeks of suffering.

Mr. Fudge became ill with pneumonia, twenty-eight weeks ago; in addition to the affection of the lungs, dropsy set in, and his condition grew gradually worse. It was known for some time that he could not recover. He remained conscious until the end.

Mr. Fudge was 70 years of age. He was born near Charleston, Ill., July 8, 1850, the son of William Fudge and wife. With his parents he moved to Jasper county, Iowa, in the fall of 1854. In his early manhood, the family moved to Cass county in April of 1871, settling on a farm three miles from the site where Marne was later founded.

Upon his marriage to Miss Dilla Matheny, Mr. Fudge engaged in farming, and he followed that occupation until the last few years, when he took up draying in Marne. He remained an active worker until the day he was stricken with sickness.

The deceased leaves to mourn his death his wife and two daughters, Mr. Ed Purdee of Marne and Mrs. Bert Ellis of Lewis. He was of a large family of brothers and sisters, ten of whom survive. They are J. O. Fudge, Mrs. Alexander Wallace, Mrs. Al Smith and Mrs. A. W. Sarsfield of Atlantic; J. K. Fudge and Mrs. McBride of Jasper county; M. S. Fudge of Harlan; J. B. Fudge of Akron, Colo.; D E. Fudge of Madrid, Neb., and O. E. Fudge of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon from the Presbyterian church in Marne. Rev. F. W. Simpson of Atlantic officiating, and burial will be in Brighton cemetery.
