MAN WHO HAULED FIRST GRAIN TO MARNE DIED YESTERDAY P.M.

James K. Fudge, who helped haul the first grain to the elevator at Marne, and a resident of this county over a half century ago, died yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leslie Summey, at Pleasantville, Ia., where he had been suffering from the effects of a stoke of paralysis in January. He was 82 years of age and a brother of J. O. Fudge, caretaker of Sunnyside park, who assisted deceased when he brought the grain which made the first consignment handled at Marne when the country [county] was new and the development just commencing. Deceased was the oldest living brother of the local man. His wife died many years ago. Besides the daughter, at whose home he died, he leaves a son, Edgar Fudge. Mrs. A. T. Smith and Mrs. A. W. Sarsfield of this vicinity are sisters.

Deceased came to this county fifty-four years ago this spring and remained here about four years, moving to Jasper county where he farmed till two years ago when he retired.

Funeral services, held tomorrow at Monroe, will be attended by Messrs. Smith and Sarsfield and Mr. Fudge. Interment will be beside his wife at Monroe.
