Services held Monday for Joseph O. Fudge

Funeral services for Joseph O. Fudge were held Monday afternoon at the Slininger Chapel. Burial was at the Jefferson Cemetery. He passed away Jan. 31, at Glendale, Ariz.

The Rev J. W. Marlin offered words of comfort. Pallbearers were Paul Culter, George Olson, Hollis Boothe, William Wright, Harold Anderson and Walter Genereux. Mrs Curtis Wilson provided organ music.

Joseph Oliver, son of Jacob and Florence Fudge, was born Aug. 1, 1898 in Atlantic, Ia., and passed away Jan. 31, 1962 in Glendale, Ariz., at the age of 63 years.

On Dec. 7, 1921, he was united in marriage to Gladys Pauline Olson at Atlantic. To this union two sons were born: Joseph Oliver Jr. (who died in infancy) and Charles William.

Mr Fudge was a member of “M” Company, 168th Infantry (Rainbow Division) of the United States Army. He was wounded by an exploding shell while serving with this unit in France during World War I.

He was associated with the floral industry for 40 years and was continuously active in that industry since 1934 until his retirement from his flower shop in Jefferson in 1961. Mr Fudge was also a member of the First Methodist Church in Jefferson, Morning Star Lodge No. 159 A. F. & A. M., Corner Stone Chapter No. 61 R. A. M., both of Jefferson, Emmaus Commandry No.35 K. T., Des Moines Consistory A. A. S. R., Za-Ga-Zig Temple Shrine at Des Moines, B. P. O. Elks No. 445 at Atlantic, Iowa, Floyd Brown Post No. 11 of the American Legion at Jefferson, Greene County Post No. 2203 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr Fudge was preceded in death by his one son, his wife and three sisters: Anna Locke Fudge who died in infancy, Mrs Irma Durr and Mrs Roy A. Wright.

He is survived by his son Charles who is a forester with the Forest Service, Fortine, Mont., one grandson, Joseph William Fudge of Fortine, Mont., one brother Robert S. Fudge of Houston, Texas, three sisters: Mrs Mildred Smiley of Dallas Center, Ia., Mrs Gladys Shaw of Indianola, Ia., Mrs Reba Roster of Des Moines, Ia., other relatives and many friends.
