HATED WAR KILLED SELF

Because he feared that he would
be drafted for service in the army
on the Mexican border, Henry Rich-
ter, 30 years old and unmarried,
committed suicide yesterday morn-
ing at 4:30 on the farm of W. G.
McFarland, six miles southeast of
Anita. He shot himself in the right
temple with a revolver. He is a
son of Nick Richter a farmer liv-
ing near Anita.

Richter had been working for Mc-
Farland as a farm hand for some
time. On Monday night he said he
would sleep out on the porch where
it was cool. About 4:30 in the morn(-)
ing the McFarland family heard a
sharp report outside of the house
but thot that somebody was out ear-
ly celebrating the Fourth. About
five-o-clock Mr. McFarland went out
to the barn and found the body. of
Richter with the revolver in his
hand.

Dr. L. M. Getz, coroner, was cal-
led from Atlantic and an inquest
held. A. N. Cron, H. W. Shannon
and F A. Daughenbaugh, neighbors,
were sworn in as coroner's jury.
Their verdict was:

"Wt(e), the jury, find that Henry
Richter came to his death by a gun-
shot wound inflicted by his own
hand and caused by mental worry
for fear he would have to go to
war."

Note: Parents of Henry T. Richter were Nicholas "Nick" Richter and Caroline Schook.
