February 29, 1996Leroy Maxwell Acker, 91 of Atlantic, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 28 at Heritage House in Atlantic. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m. at the Roland Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles J. Downing officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. There will be a masonic service Friday at 6 p.m. followed by a visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The son of Thaddeus Wakefield and Ida Elizabeth Noyer Acker, he was born Feb. 23, 1905 in Atlantic. He attended country school and also attended the Atlantic High School. His marriage to Fern Minnie Becker took place on January 31, 1929 in Newton. He lived in Cass County and farmed northwest of Massena in the Pine Grove area for 37 years, retiring in January of 1966. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Pymosa Lodge AF & AM #271, Ophir Chapter #84, Kedron Commandery #42, Atlantic Council #19, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Nishna Valley Shrine Club and Order of the Eastern Star.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Arleigh, Clayton, Clarence, and Clifton Acker; one sister, Abbie E. Kitchen; and a daughter, Dorothy in infancy.
Surviving are his wife, Fern of Atlantic; two daughters, Doris Larsen and husband Raymond of Lake View; and Elaine Lowe and husband Clifford of Indianola; a son, Darrel Acker and wife Nancy of Wapakoneta, Ohio; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
